SCMWC — Licence and Disclaimer Version 0.1.3 By installing or using this software you confirm that you have read, understood and accepted every clause below. If you do not accept any of them, do not install or use this software. This is an English translation provided for convenience. In the event of a conflict, the Traditional Chinese version (terms-zh.txt) governs. 0. THIS SOFTWARE IS NOT CODE-SIGNED This build has no code-signing certificate. That means: - Microsoft Defender SmartScreen will warn you when you run the installer - Windows cannot confirm to you that the file really came from the author - If the file were altered by a third party in transit, Windows could not detect that either You are responsible for satisfying yourself as to the origin and integrity of the file before installing it. Suggested checks: - Download only from the official website or the official GitHub release page - Compare the published SHA-256 checksum with the file you received - Scan it with a multi-engine service such as VirusTotal If you choose to bypass, disable or otherwise circumvent your operating system's security protections in order to install this software, that decision and its consequences are entirely your own. The author does not advise disabling SmartScreen or any anti-malware product, and accepts no liability whatsoever for damage arising from doing so. If you are not willing to accept these risks, please wait until a signed build is available. 1. WHAT THIS SOFTWARE DOES SCMWC repeatedly captures the window region you select, analyses the pixels in that region, and raises a notification when the condition you chose is met. Capture is performed by asking the target application to render itself through the Windows PrintWindow interface. Only windows you explicitly select are captured. The whole desktop is not captured, and keyboard input is not recorded. 2. NO WARRANTY The software is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and the timeliness, accuracy or reliability of any notification. The author does not warrant that the software will function correctly in any particular situation, nor that any notification will ever be delivered. 3. PROHIBITED USES This software is a general-purpose convenience tool. It is not a monitoring system, not an alarm system, and has not been certified for safety or reliability of any kind. You must not use it for, without limitation: - medical devices, life support, or patient monitoring - industrial process control, machinery control, or workplace safety alerts - fire detection, security, or disaster warning - aviation, marine, vehicular or any transport control - automated financial trading, order execution, or risk control - any purpose where failing to receive a notification could cause personal injury, property damage, or legal liability If you nevertheless deploy it in such a setting, you assume all risk and consequences. 4. DETECTION IS INFERENCE AND CAN BE WRONG The software reasons about pixels. It does not read the internal state of the program you are watching. Specifically regarding "tell me when it finishes": Windows progress bar controls animate while filling, so a program that resets its progress immediately upon completion may never render a fully filled bar at all. In that case SCMWC infers completion from a large backwards jump in progress. That is an inference, not an observation. It may report a failed retry as a completed job, and in some layouts it may not detect completion at all. Colour-change and general change detection can likewise be thrown off by screen layout, display scaling, colour management or graphics driver behaviour. 5. THIS SOFTWARE MOVES YOUR WINDOWS When a window you are watching is minimised, SCMWC restores it and moves it outside the visible desktop area so that it continues to render and can still be captured. This is deliberate: a minimised window draws nothing and cannot be captured at all. You can return such windows at any time using "put background windows back" in the tray menu. They are also restored automatically when the software exits. If your workflow cannot tolerate windows being moved, do not use this software. 6. PHONE ALERTS AND DATA LEAVING YOUR MACHINE Discord alerts are disabled by default and only become active after you supply a webhook URL yourself. Once enabled, the following is transmitted over the internet to Discord, a third party service: - the title of the watched window - the text describing why the alert fired - if you separately tick "attach a screenshot", an image of that screen region "Attach a screenshot" is off by default. Enabling it means uploading the contents of your screen to an external service. You are responsible for confirming that such transmission is permitted in your environment, including but not limited to your employer's information security policy, confidentiality agreements, data protection law, and client contractual obligations. Once data leaves your machine, this software has no control over how it is stored, backed up or retained. The author is not affiliated with Discord and is not responsible for that service's availability or security. 7. AUTHORISATION AND COMPLIANCE You must be the owner of the computer on which you run this software, or have the explicit permission of its owner. Capturing screen content may be restricted by, and you are responsible for confirming and obtaining any necessary authorisation under: - your employer's information security and acceptable use policies - the terms of service of remote desktop, Citrix, VDI or cloud platforms - audit requirements applying to regulated systems (financial, medical, governmental) - the privacy rights and trade secrets of other people In managed corporate environments, anti-malware or endpoint detection software may classify screen capture as suspicious activity. Check with your IT department first. 8. DATA STORAGE This software contains no usage tracking, no advertising, and transmits nothing back to the author. The configuration file — which includes any Discord webhook URL you enter — is stored as plain text at: %LOCALAPPDATA%\SCMWC\config.txt A webhook URL is effectively a credential permitting anyone who holds it to post to that channel. Treat it like a password. This software does not encrypt that file. 9. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY To the maximum extent permitted by law, the author shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential damages, including without limitation: - lost profits, lost revenue, or loss of goodwill - loss or corruption of data - business interruption or project delay - notifications that were not delivered, delivered late, or delivered wrongly - the consequences of any action taken, or not taken, because of a notification or the absence of one - the consequences of installing unsigned software, or of altering system security settings in order to install this software - outage, data exposure or policy change at any third party service such as Discord even if the author has been advised of the possibility of such damages. You understand and agree that the notification feature may fail completely and without any indication in circumstances including: the target program changing how it draws, operating system updates, display configuration changes, intervention by anti-malware or endpoint protection software, the computer entering sleep or hibernation, loss of network connectivity, or a Discord service fault. You must not rely on this software as your only, or your last, line of notification. If any part of this limitation is held unenforceable in your jurisdiction, the author's total cumulative liability shall not exceed the amount you actually paid for this software; where you paid nothing, that amount is zero. 9a. SEVERABILITY AND SURVIVAL If any clause is held invalid or unenforceable, the remaining clauses continue in full force. The clauses covering disclaimer of warranty, limitation of liability and prohibited uses survive your ceasing to use, or removing, this software. The author may amend these terms, and may change or discontinue the software, at any time and without prior notice. Continuing to use a later version constitutes acceptance of the terms shipped with that version. 10. GENERAL This software is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Microsoft, Discord, or any third party application you choose to watch with it. All trademarks belong to their respective owners. The author is under no obligation to provide support, to fix defects, or to continue development.
